About Mrs. V

Hi! My name is Mrs. Sarah VanderVort (Mrs. V for short). I am so glad that you want to know more about me. I am OVER THE MOON to begin my teaching career, and start nurturing the learner within both students and myself. Although I am a first-year teacher doesn't mean I am new to the education world. In fact, I worked over three years as a Library Assistant at an amazing elementary school. I loved it!!! I got to personally know the entire school and all 465 kiddos (you can't get that exposure as a teacher). I also worked for two years as a paraprofessional tutor for the school district. After 8 years of working in both public and school libraries I knew that I had to pursue my passion-teaching! I got my BA in Elementary Education (Interdisciplinary Studies) K-8 from Western Governors University-Washington, after student teaching in 5th grade.

My family recently moved to Anchorage from the Pacific Northwest. My husband and I have lived here once before, but I am looking forward to now making Anchorage our forever home! My husband and I have been married 11 years. We have two active boys, ages 6 and 19 months. Our family wouldn't be complete without our two dogs!

In my spare time I enjoy running, hiking, Zumba, photography, reading, going to the movies and museums, cooking and traveling. I especially love going on cruises with my family. We also try to visit as many national parks as possible. I also enjoy making crafts and doing simple science experiments with my sons. I recently discovered how much I love science and it is such an easy thing to get children really excited about! I particularly like geology and learning about how the earth was made.
